Crossing Lines
by Wendy Gist

     low-sky country
tortilla-white clouds crossing
Arizona
             red-garnet cliffs
drifting like strung pearls
on the nape of jade sky
     auric light
             blooms noon
silver-blue brushed hills and
sunflower lavished heat shine
             raven eye
                  shared
               as
       hitchhiker leans against plywood
sign STEAM CORN
rug woven roadside
         blue-denim clothesline
             free-range graze
royal royal blue
lake moves in puerperal
              silence
