Sharon Lask Munson
Cool as a Tenor Sax

I slipped inside the back door
of Baker’s Keyboard Lounge

listened, as John Coltrane
played a smooth saxophone.

The rich, pure mellow sound
made me float

between tears and laughter.
I sipped my whisky sour

watched water droplets
trickle down the glass into a puddle

inhaled a lipstick coated Lucky Strike
blew rings around my head into the dim.
